Yahoo To Discuss With Microsoft

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

In a presentation that took place at the Morgan Stanley Technology Conference in San Francisco, Ms. Carol Bartz, the chief executive officer of Yahoo Inc. said that she would definitely discuss with Microsoft on possible internet-search dealings but everything would be private. She also insisted that the company should and would be stronger in having discussions and negotiations in a more stronger business way. Ms. Carol Bartz seemed to be confident, as it has been recently noticed that the share values of Yahoo in the share market has stabilized a bit. The credit for the change would certainly go to Ms. Carol Bartz, as she was the one who made many bold decisions like stopping of many small minimal profitable services and also shuffling of decision makers in the higher profile. This management shaken up did really work, as it seems that it has brought a new sense of responsibility among the officials who are with Yahoo now. The changes are working. She said that this stability has also impressed advertisers and many seem to be interested in the recent joint program that search advertising with Yahoo’s graphical display advertising. Based on the stronger position it has in the market, Ms. Carol Bartz says that she would be able to negotiate well with Microsoft on the possible synergies. However, no dates or schedule on when these discussions about the dealings would take place has not been announced. May be, it is still not finalized and even after finalization, it is not sure that it would be announced as the dealings are planned to be kept private.

Though the earlier discussions on Microsoft acquiring Yahoo were not fruitful, Yahoo’s former chief executive officer Mr. Jerry Yang had told the media before he left that the company would still be interested in having a deal with Microsoft. He had also mentioned that after the deal is finalized, Microsoft would be able to take full control over the search business of Yahoo. Mr. Jerry yang had announced it thinking that it would rectify all the financial problems that were with Yahoo. But now, the new chief executive of Yahoo Ms. Carol Bartz has said that even after having the deal with Microsoft, the access to the Yahoo data on user search queries would be retained with Yahoo. Speaking in this regard she said, “We would never debone the company”. This has reason the cause for this to be that only these search results data would help the company in targeting the advertisers and also in making new plans and packages for the advertisers.

Ms. Carol Bartz also announced the resignation of the chief financial officer of Yahoo Mr. Blake Jorgensen. She said that he is no more with Yahoo. However, he was available with Ms. Carol Bartz at the presentation. It was told that Mr. Blake Jorgensen would be in until the position has been replaced.
