Though Yahoo would be powering its queries relying on Microsoft’s Bing, it has announced that it would be competing against Microsoft’s Bing with its advanced and improved search interface that it is sure would impress the users and make the search process simple and user friendly. These very recent plans about the revamping of the search engine, improving the interface of Yahoo Mails and Yahoo Messenger have all come into existence and have been announced only after it has been noticed that a fraction of points of US search share have been lost by Google and Yahoo to Microsoft last month. This report might have shattered Yahoo and given birth for this new decision of revamping the search.
Mr. Prabhakar Raghavan, a senior vice president of Yahoo has said to the reporters at the company’s headquarters, “We are not a version of Bing. We are Yahoo and that will continue…We collaborate on the back-end but we are competitors on the front-end,”
The company spoke more about their complex relationship with Microsoft in a press meet that was held at Yahoo’s headquarters and details on how the deal is going to work was also discussed about. The current deal that has been signed by Yahoo with Microsoft is for 10 years and the deal says that Microsoft’s Bing would power the search results on Yahoo’s websites. The deal was signed in the last week of July 2009 and it is expected to come into effect from the start of the coming New Year.
Yahoo’s search technology would be powered and licensed by Microsoft and would integrate certain aspects of its own search engine into Bing. Panama, Yahoo’s advertising search product would also be replaced Microsoft’s advertising search product AdCenter.
Mr. Prabhakar Raghavan, has said that the answers that you receive for queries from Microsoft’s Bing along with the search ads that would not be used completely but would be used depending on the complexity of the formula. Yahoo’s Vice President Mr. Larry Cornett said that the advertisements banners on the sides of the searches would certainly help the users in getting the information they are really looking for.
The intent security company that is working on the security part of the search engine is McAfee Inc that would be found in a box and would filter links that are dangerous. Videos and other information from websites like Yelp that provides reviews on the quality of restaurants can all be played and watched without leaving the search page. Mr. Larry Cornett demonstrated the new approach to the media, said that it is currently under the testing phase, and would be available soon be available for the users. These changes and update are expected to impress the audience who would be looking for some real information on their topic of interest. The most attractive part of it is to play videos and ads right in the search page without out of it.
