For those familiar with Technorati, Yahoo’s Buzz seemed like a pretty cool deal - until it was revealed it would only be available to select publishers when released back in February.
As of Monday night, Buzz has been opened up to all publishers, with a handy Buzz button to place on your site.
Like Digg, Yahoo Buzz allows humans to give a shout out about cool stories, sites and content and rank it up or down. Various items that have been buzzed have received over a million visits, so we can expect this to take off with a vengeance now that it is completely out of the testing phase!
The idea behind Yahoo Buzz isn’t new, but it is the first search engine to aggressively pursue the idea. The list of publishers steadily grew from the initial hundred or so in February after an update in March and the news that over 50 million referrals had already been made.
Buzz stories can make the jump from Buzz to other sites like Digg, Facebook, Propeller, Reddit and Stumbleupon for even more exposure. This new opportunity is sure to become a quick addition to sites’ ‘button boards’ everywhere.
Next step - monetization, of course.
