The recent report that Rush Limbaugh, the right wing radio host, had died gave many pause when it came to Wikipedia misleadingly having the intimation of Limbaugh’s death.
According to several sources who saw the erroneous information before it was taken down, Wikipedia stated that:
Rush Hudson Limbaugh III (pronounced /?l?mb??/;born January 12, 1951, died December 30, 2009) is an American radio host and conservative political commentator. He is the host of The Rush Limbaugh Show, the highest-rated talk-radio program in the United States. It airs throughout the U.S. on Premiere Radio Networks.
The information reportedly was posted just after midnight, and was only up for about 15 minutes. This is the pitfall of user generated content – the constant battles for accuracy.
So do we throw Wikipedia out the window? To date there is no such free directory of information available- but check your sources and double-check with a third party before blogging about a celebrity’s demise – you might be jumping the gun.
