Several reports have surfaced indicating that the rankings for mobile search may be calculated a little differently. It has already been surmised that local sites may be automatically given preference; now it is speculated that PageRank may not be as large a factor in ranking as regular web content.
As mobile search continues to explode, the issue of relevancy seems even more important ; definitely we see huge trends when it comes to what people search for when they are out and about with only their cell phone. Whoops, I forgot – we’re not supposed to call them cell phones anymore – make that a handheld mobile information database integration device.
Whatever the criteria, webmasters who hope to capture a percentage of mobile search traffic may need to concentrate on immediate relevance even more than linking or striving for PageRank. The future seems to be shifting more and more towards mobile search as handheld devices become more powerful and the wireless network expands.
