SEO NEWS: No New CEO for Yahoo

Thursday, July 12th, 2012

In SEO news, Yahoo came out of their latest board meeting without having named a new CEO to run the ship. Interim CEO, Ross Levisohn, is still at the helm for the time being, although there are rumors that the interim tag hanging around his neck may be lifted for something more permanent. Yahoo has seen 8 of the 11 members on its board turn over in the past year which has raised questions as to what yahoo is going to look like directionally – and of particular interest, what is going to come of the once mighty Yahoo search engine.

The general train of thought is that if Levisohn stays on, there may be hope for the Yahoo search engine – but with someone else at the helm it may become more irrelevant than it is now. Levinsohn has actual credentials to save Yahoo and it’s search engine, but HULU and Comcast are rumored to be ready to start a bidding war over him. His obvious skills and ability to do the job for Yahoo are the reasons he likely will not take the job because the Yahoo board of directors hasn’t done anything rational or sensible in almost 4 years.

With Yahoo far from broke, but looking for money, it may just be that they allow Bing to consume what is left of Yahoo search. No one knows yahoo search exists anymore hardly and Bing serves the entries for the few people that do still use it. Levinsohn wouldn’t let it go down with a fight, but the board will which is what SEOs need to watch for as optimizing for yahoo may be on the cusp of going the way of the dinosaur.
