Talk of a Facebook search engine that may be able to take down Google isn’t proving as popular as you may think. While there are a number of gripes about Google search, many users don’t seem so enthralled with the idea of Facebook getting into the search game and trying to take a man sized bite out of Google’s market share. There is no secret bad blood exists between the two companies, but can Facebook make search work?
To this point, Facebook search has been disappointing at best. They haven’t made internal search that is considered passable work yet, so there are questions regarding how qualified they are to branch out. That matter little when recent studies show hat a Facebook search engine could snatch up to 22% of the search market traffic share which means huge revenue for a company that is expected to start making big money very fast. Is it the right move though?
Most analysts believe a Facebook search engine would be jumping the gun. Users aren’t enamored by their likes on Facebook impacting search like +1 does on Google. While Facebook will almost definitely have to get in the search race eventually, they have to make it work on their own platform first. Conceptually, it is a sound idea and would lead to a revolution in SEO and SMM, but it would also be years from being viable and cost billions to actually be solidified enough to compete before it ever turns a hint of a profit.
