Search Forecast from Google Insights

Google Trends and Google Insights are two useful tools that help us understand the search trends of the internet community. This was highly helpful for optimizing our websites. We will be able to optimize our websites only when we know what people are looking for. Identifying the right keywords is the basis of any SEO’s success. Google Insights has got even better now.
Google Insights works even more intelligently trying to establish search patterns based on the past data. Using the past data, Google can now forecast what the future searches will be for a given period of the year. Google Insights has observed that there is a predictable pattern in the search trends in the past and this past data comes as such a great fund of information. No one can beat Google in what they can do with the information or the data they gather. This is one of the main reasons for their success; they constantly give the internet community with the intuitive tools that are highly helpful.
However, there is a limitation to this new feature that Google has added to Insights. If you observe the search patterns you will know that not all keyword searches will fall under a pattern. For example, you can see a pattern for the keyword “gift items” it will tend to increase during Valentine’s Day and during Holiday season and have a constant search queries through out the year but not reaching the peak as it does during these two seasons. Similarly, the keyword “ski” will reach its peak during the skiing season in the US and Australia. Rest of the year it will receive very little queries. These are trends or patterns in the search behavior of the internet community. We can draw a future chart using the past data indicating in which months certain keywords tend to go high and it which period they will go low.
There are some keywords for example the search term “swine flu” this will have not specific search pattern. Currently, this is one of the most searched keywords in the Asian countries. One cannot be sure for how long this will continue. This is a onetime trend and we cannot really forecast the search trend for this keyword at least for now. The new feature of Google Insights is will compare the forecast based on the past data and the actual trends to calculate the predictability level for each keyword. This system will get refined over a period of time offering powerful data to the webmasters. By knowing this information, we can make our marketing efforts more effective. We will be able to plan our marketing efforts ahead of time to match with the forecast to see higher traffic to our websites and hence higher profit level.
