New features are added by Google in its new signature tool set. This has been announced and shown by Google executives at Searchology that is an annual company event. The new features include mobile translator and options for users to make search by sight. One more important feature is the ability to make a real time search that can be made in more than one billion social media pages that are created everyday on daily basis.
Google has announced that it is trying to make search services more close and beneficial to mobile phones. They are trying to make the search more sophisticated this way as this would be very useful to users as many of them are making searches using their mobiles these days. One more most important and unique feature that Google has included now is Google Goggles that would help users in making their search using pictures rather than keywords. Users would be able to use pictures that they have taken using their mobile phones and make their searches without using any keywords. The search would be performed using the picture and the system would try to identify the images.
Talking to the media about the new features that are being included, Mr. Vic Gundotra, the vice president of Google engineering, has said, “It is our goal to be able to identify any image. It represents our earliest efforts in the field of computer vision. You can take a picture of an item, use that picture of whatever you take as the query.”
Mr. Vic Gundotra said that the feature would have the ability to recognize face and that the company would be able to integrate the facial recognition feature but that it had delayed the process because of the privacy implications. He has said, “For this product, we made the decision not to do facial recognition. We still want to work on the issues of user opt-in and control. We have the technology to do the underlying face recognition, but we decided to delay that until safeguards are in place.”
He also demonstrated on how one of the new features that would translate a spoken phrase in English to Spanish by just using the mobile phone works. He added saying that the translator feature would be available in Google by next year and that the number of languages would be increased as early as possible. He said that Google’s aim is to include all major world languages helping the users in all possible ways. The new features that are launched are a result of the partnership that Google is having with Facebook and MySpace. Google is also having a partnership with Twitter that is a microblogging network.
