New Budgeting Option in Google Adwords January 9th, 2009

Now that the holiday season is over and every business owner has started thinking about new ventures and about increasing their profits in their business, new efforts can be seen all over the web. To help business owners come up with better planning on their advertising budget online, Google is likely to rollout a new feature as part of its Adwords program. AdwordsAdvisor who is the official spokesperson of Google confirmed this news at WebmasterWorld.

Besides the hint given by AdwordsAdvisor, there is no other official news regarding this feature. This new feature at Adwords is called “Timeframe”, this feature is in its beta phase, and a select number of accounts are included in the beta test. Using this new feature Adwords users will have better control over their budget. Now they can come up with a plan and assign their desired budget for a given timeframe, it can be for the entire month or for a single day.

So in the monthly budget Google will serve your ads for the respective month based on the traffic demands and not on the daily budget limits. Now with the Timeframe option, you can set daily budget and increase it or reduce it as per your requirements and thereby increase or decrease the number of impressions based on your budget for the day. This gives you an additional handle to manage your budget and this feature will be highly welcomed by the webmasters who regularly run Adwords campaign. This is a brand new concept and it is not available with any other PPC program so far.

As far as the daily budget is concerned, when the traffic is low on a particular day, your ads will also be served for lesser number of times resulting in reduced number of clicks. This will create a scenario whereby your daily budget is not reached and still there will be some more money left for the day as per the budget that you set. This leftover budget will not be carried forward. As per the Adwords program, Google tries to increase the impressions for up to 20% in their daily budget on days when the traffic is more.

When it comes to monthly budget, Google tries to adjust the budget automatically everyday according to the traffic. The overall monthly budget will still control the number of impressions served.

However, the question that pops up here is that, would it not be better to leave the budget setting to monthly budget option rather than bringing it down to daily budget setting? When it is monthly budget, it gives the Adwords program to have little more flexibility to serve the ads according to the traffic demand rather than just go by the daily budget set by website owner. The Timeframe feature will be useful only when the website owner is highly conversant with the visitor traffic pattern to his website. Setting the daily budget in a random fashion or with proper statistical backing can prove to be harmful.
