Mozilla Security has discovered two high severity flaws in Google’s Chrome that can cause severe damage to the users’ systems. The errors are found by Mozilla Security in the V8 JavaScript engine of its Chrome 2 stable Web browser. However, the flaws have been updated and being made available to all Chrome users now.
Google has said that Malicious JavaScript can make the Chrome browser to run the arbitary code. Google has also mentioned that the code would still be protected by the browser’s ‘sandbox’ and this protected area where the code would be running would not be accessible to the system resources. The issue that has been discovered now is that these codes that are run inside the ‘sandbox’ could provoke the user to trigger an action that might severely cause damage to the system through different payloads. Google has accepted that there are flaws in their codes and issued High severity rating.
After having known about these results, it is expected that Mozilla’s Security team would be working out the same tests on other brands of open source browsers as well. The testing seems to be genuine, as it seems to be testing all releases of Firefox as well. The fact that has been determined now is that Mozilla’s security team has tried the same test on Google’s Chrome browser with the same detrimental results that are reported by the security team to have been found in Firefox.
The latest Firefox bug that was determined to be matching the Google profile was moz_bug_r_a4. This bug had found the JavaScript bug that executes an ordinary code with all the privileges available with chrome. This would not have anything to do with Google Chrome. The only difference would be that the keys to the browser interface would be unlocked. To be more specific, what has been discovered is a JavaScript that has been created amidst the data instead of being created in a protected memory area. The flaw that has been discovered might trigger a crash or fault and move a pointer into the data that has been found to be referring to a property of that object. If there should be a crash in the system, the pointer would be left open to exploitation.
The updates that are made to Google’s Chrome would be updated automatically when the Chrome users login the system next time and the changes would be updated once they reload their systems. Google has also promised that it would pay enough attention to the V8 JavaScript bug that are determined once it is made sure that enough Chrome 2 users have installed the update that is now available online. Google as Chrome 2.0.172.43 has released the updated version of Chrome and it can be downloaded by anyone who uses Chrome.
