Wednesday, June 18th, 2008
For all those who wondered if mobile search would translate into mobile sales – the answer is a resounding yes!

9 million people searched and bought products or services via their cell phone, says a new report detailed by Nielsen.

Of the 40 million mobile web users, 5 million visited auction sites or online stores in April – up 73% from last year! Ebay is the most popular mobile web desination, with a healthy 3.4 million unique visitors in April.

This is definitely a market for high ROI, and webmasters are finally catching on to the idea of optimizing for mobile search. Look to see mobile mania be the next big wave for SEO, as adaptations are made for screen size and geolocation.

6.5 million consumers made purchases via text messaging as well. The main worries for consumers include concerns over security issues, airtime charges and completeness of transactions, but at least half of all data users intend to participate in mobile commerce in the future.

Suit pants ruined right before the out of town meeting? Find a shop near your destination, email your size, and pay via the mobile web on the way to the airport. Pick up the pants on the other end with a minimum of fuss, and make the meeting on time and in style.
