Microsoft Trying Different Ways to Make Bing Popular

Monday, May 25th, 2009

Microsoft seems to be trying its level best to make Bing popular but by turning the internet audience’s attention away from Google. Resources report that Microsoft is ready to spend $80 million to accomplish this task. Even last year Microsoft tried the same approach in case of Vista. This approach of trying to turn around customers from an existing old company towards their own product doesn’t sound healthy and was a failure last time. It was because people were and would still be able to judge the difference between products, quality and price and would be able to decide on what they actually need. All this is done to attract more users towards its own search engine Bing.
The search market also seems to be in favor of Google and it is very obvious. The total percentage of searches made using Google seems to be 64.2 percent where as that of Yahoo and Microsoft are 20.4 percent and 8.2 percent. This shows a large variation and not even the joint percentages of Yahoo and Microsoft would be able to move any closer to the figures of Google.
The new search engine Bing developed by Microsoft is expected to be launched sometime next week. Microsoft is having high expectations about Bing but the chances for it to compete with Google and to capture the market seems to be impractical. The situation was the same two years ago when Ask launched its own search engine and expected too much from it in return. But the results was a complete failure and a very bad loss in the search market.

Though Microsoft has been spending a lot and using different ad strategies to attack Google, the possibilities for its success seem to be very low. This is because people have as well become very intelligent these days and they are easily able to differentiate between a vice ad and an ad that tries to degrade its competitor. But as nothing is fixed or same in the search industry, things might change in favor of Microsoft as well. But as of now, the practical aspects show no chances of anything like that to happen.

As trying to force some message or view into others would always not be a success, it might be a failure in this case as well. As resources are sure that Microsoft is spending a lot of money to buy users for Bing, they wonder on why it is doing so as it has already faced failure by adopting the same method in the early years. As of the current status of the search market, Google does not seem to leave its top position to any one else. It is just not the power but its efficiency that all the user’s trust and need. Trying to uproot Google at this stage might be impossibility.
