This seems to be a season of Apps Store after Google’s Android Market; Microsoft too is trying its hand in Apps Store modules for mobile phones. When you are among the toppers you certainly can’t afford to watch the show and do nothing about things that happen in the market. Microsoft’s latest effort is a clear indication that they have to fight the competition hard to keep themselves in the toppers list. Skymarket is the one of the latest products of Microsoft that is expected to be launched in the coming fall. This is Microsoft’s version of Apple’s App Store.
Microsoft has not been playing any leading role in the mobile market and with this new tool Skymarket. There was a job posting in Computerjob.com noted by Long Zheng and this job posting was for a senior product manager who is to lead a team at Skymarket to drive the launch of a V1 marketplace service for Windows Mobile. The product manager has to be taking care of the following according to the ad placed in the aforementioned job site – business model and policies of the new product that will make Windows Mobile Marketplace better recognized than its competitors. The drive should also make the developers and the distributors to come to Skymarket to make more revenue. The new product manager should also be taking care of the cross group collaboration that is essential during the launching phase of the new product. The product manager will also be collaborating with the stakeholders at all commercial levels with the launch of WM7. This news has not yet been officially announced by Microsoft directly and no response came from the Microsoft representatives when quizzed for more information on their latest efforts.
As a mobile OS or operating system Windows Mobile software is used in smartphone enabling the mobile phones with e-mail, internet services, web surfing, music etc. Lately they were losing their popularity against its competitors. However they claim that their sales increased to about 19 percent in the second quarter which would mean an increased sale of 9 percent since last year.
All the major internet giants have spotted their future clearly and they are taking definitive strides in that direction. Microsoft which is losing out very badly to Google in the search industry is trying to compete with Google and its other competitors. Just a year ago Microsoft launched Windows Mobile 6.1 with latest possible tools that gave the desktop feel to the mobile users. It also enhanced the web browser for a better mobile surfing experience.
Skymarket hopefully will help Microsoft to capture the market and should be able to hold its fort in the midst of stiff competition. Apple is currently doing extremely well with its App Store and 3G phone; it is trying to compensate what it has lost in the field of computing. As of now Apple looks absolutely unbeatable in the field of mobile applications. We have to wait to see what Microsoft is coming up this fall and how much of competition it presents Apple and Google.
