Microsoft has revamped their portal, giving it a startlingly clean new look and a modernistic feel which is being called the most dramatic redesign of the decade. Microsoft’s new and definitely improved webpage is easier to use and the cluttered effect formerly associated with the MSN portal is finally gone. A central location now exists for video, Facebook and Twitter to be incorporated, and there is also space for a new local area and an emphasized search option.
According to Microsoft, MSN currently has about 600 million uses globally – it might have trailed Yahoo in the US for years, but abroad it is a different story. The website is a huge asset in that it drives approximately forty-five percent of all Bing queries. Now, with the highly superior new convenience, look and design of the portal, more users will probably switch to Bing and MSN.
Users can now log in easily to access their Facebook and Twitter accounts through MSN with the activity streams of both websites displayed on the homepage, lower right quadrant. The local edition no displays content like restaurants and hotels, entertainment, news, traffic and gas prices. These are even aggregated and displayed in a format that includes maps and local search functionality.
Microsoft felt their old look was outdated and non functional. The new portal is expected to roll out globally within a few months time (the look may vary slightly from country to country). For more information on the new MSN webpage, visit MSN.com or their blog.
