Google Uses Snow Leopard To Fix Problems With Chrome

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

Google Inc. has officially announced that it would be updating Chrome and fixing all the compatibility problems that are existing now with Chrome using Snow Leopard. This would not only fix the problems but would also provide information on the gradual maturity of the Mac OS X version of the Chrome browser.
Chrome 4.0.203.4 for the Mac has not a couple of updates when compared with its previous version of Chrome 4.0.203.2. However, significant changes can be noticed in the developer preview software. Mentioning about the Snow Leopard compatibility, a Chrome engineering program manager Mr. Jonathan Conradt has specified in his blog post that the programmers have identified and fixed a complicated text bug.
Google initially developed and launched Chrome for Windows but has later upgraded it to form different versions that can be used in Linux and Mac. However, these versions of Chrome are still available for developer preview incarnations and not yet ready for a launch. Google is not knocking off some of the features in this update. One feature that is available in the user interface enables support for command- and shift-clicking.
Another interesting and very useful feature that is going to be included in Mac is the tab-to-search feature in the omnibox. This is a very interesting feature that would be of great help to users who search a lot of information over Google everyday. With this feature, the user would be able to type the search terms directly in the address bar and search the information from any site. For instance, if the user wishes to search some information from the website say www.sample.com, then the user can type the URL in the address bar, press tab and then type the search terms. The websites that can be accessed or searched using this feature include Amazon, Yahoo, Google, Google News and The New York Times but the feature does not work with Bing yet. The feature is available on Chrome for Mac OS X as well. This would certainly save a lot of time for the users and the search is made even simpler.
As far as the performance part of it is concerned, Mac version of Chrome still needs some polish and updates. One difficult point that is noticed in Gmail when used with Chrome on Mac OS X is that the user would not be able to see the file upload dialog box when the user moves away from the application for a while. Also, in this case, the tabs stop working in Gmail. However, great improvement in new tab creation has been done as its time has been reduced from 1-3 seconds to fifth of a second that is a great improvement.
Google is working very hard to popularize Chrome. They are advertising it well as well and they have even had Chrome as the default browser in some of the Sony laptops.
