Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

In response to what the CEO of News Corporation Mr. Rupert Murdoch has said, Google has said that it would not index publishers if they do not wish. This response has been given by Google after Mr. Rupert Murdoch has said that he will try to block the Google search engine from crawling and indexing news from his websites. One of the spokesperson from Google has said that they are indexing news from various publishers in order to be viewed by millions of people all over the world and also, he calls Google News as a very good source of promotion for the news publishers as it brings 100,000 clicks every minute. However, if the publisher is not interested in having his or her news published at Google News then Google will not. “Publishers put their content on the web because they want it to be found, so very few choose not to include their material in Google News and web search. But if they tell us not to include it, we don’t.”

The chairman and Chief Executive Officer of News Corporation Mr. Rupert Murdoch had addressed in one of his new channels that they are thinking of removing their newspapers’ content from Google News as they are planning to begin to charge users for reading their online news content. This sounds like the News Corporation is trying to create awareness among people on the importance of news and encouraging them to pay for reading such content online that were earlier available for customers for free.
Replying to these views of Mr. Murdoch, Google has stated that the procedure to remove any content that has already been indexed by its search engine is very simple and involves a simple procedure. The webmasters would just have to contact and ask Google to have the content that they do not want to be listed to be removed and this might include photos as well. The statement published by Google concluded saying, “If publishers want their content to be removed from Google News specifically all they need to do it tell us,”
Mr. Rupert Murdoch has said in his interview that valuable information and news from their newspapers are being just used by resources like Google, Microsoft and Ask.com and being published and that this has helped people in stealing their stories. He insisted that they would be removing their online content from Google when they start charging for it. Mr. Rupert Murdoch has said that his plans of making the online content of his newspapers a paid service would now be delayed a bit as his workers are still working on it and that his plans would be materialized soon.
