Google Debuts Superbowl Commercial February 7th, 2010

After scoffing at Bing’s serious television ad campaign, Google is following suit. Rumors started flying late last week about the possibility of a Google spot during the big game, due to this post by Eric Schmidt on Twitter:

This rumor has been bolstered by a blog post from John Battelle:

Well I’ve got a pretty reliable source who is telling me Google plans to hit the branded advertising big leagues this Sunday – the source says Google’s “Parisian Love” ad will air during the third quarter of the Super Bowl.

Techmeme posits that it may be another ad altogether:

Update: After some internal discussion, we think it could be a Nexus One ad (which Google said during its launch event that it wasn’t likely to do outside of the web). Some commenters seem to be agreeing as well.

According to Search Engine Land, Google will have company:

There is a commercial in the 3rd quarter for Motorola’s MOTOBLUR, a mobile interface that works on Android. There’s also a 3rd quarter commercial planned for KGB Answers, a mobile answer service that competes with Google (and other search engines/services).

Tomorrow we’ll find out for certain what Google finally decided to run, and see if Bing has anything up their sleeve as well.
