Google Chrome 2

Saturday, January 10th, 2009

Google Chrome is evolving at faster pace than what others expected. Google has come up with its Chrome 2.0 already and has set it rolling in the pre-beta version. This version is felt to be one-step closer to its goal of supporting more systems than just Windows. Google Chrome will eventually support Linux and Mac. The latest version of Google Chrome is 2.0.156.1 was released in the Development channel and here the developers will be able to try the new features of the latest version of Google Chrome.

One of the major changes in the latest version of Google Chrome is the shifting to the HTTP network protocol from Win HTTP library. This move is expected to take Google Chrome one step closer to the Mac and Linux versions. Though there are no official word from Google on this, supporting multiple platform is Google’s all time top priority. From the point of user interests, support for Mac and Linux platforms is one of the most requested features of Google Chrome. These requests were received right from the beta testing phase since 2008 September.

The latest version has also incorporated a number of other add-ons and one such improvement is the WebKit. This feature will be useful in rendering web pages based on open source code. The latest version also has tried to seal the loopholes and bugs. Now you can also find full page zoom and auto-scroll features incorporated with the latest version.

One more useful feature that has been added to Google Chrome is the auto complete feature. This was originally part of the Google toolbar and it is surprising that this feature has to be incorporated so late with Google Chrome. This feature is a great time saver as it automatically fills the forms that the user has filled earlier.

Something that is totally out of the box too has been incorporated. You can launch a new browser with the latest version of Google Chrome with completely new profile, history, cookies and bookmarks. The profiles are stored and named using user defined names. These profiles can be launched through the shortcuts that can be added to the desktop. This will be considered a cool feature by many online users and it makes the entire browsing experience really easy. You will be able to use this feature for testing purposes when you have to shuttle between multiple login pages.
Google is trying to capture the market share faster than it is currently doing now. As per the latest statistics Google Chrome has captured just 1% of the market share and it has a very long way to go to reach its competitors, Internet Explorer has a market share of 77% and now for Google this is a huge target to achieve and it should revise its strategy to reach more users. Like Microsoft, it should bundle Google Chrome along with the OS. Its market share will increase further when it starts supporting other platforms including Mac and Linux.
