Google’s blogger service was down for more than an hour today. This has now happened several times with Google and this time it has been Google’s Blogger blog publishing platform that went out of service for almost one and a half hour. As this is one of the most popular services of Google, several thousands of users suffered the outage and it is sure it would affected their businesses and personal updates as well.
A brief message that was available at Blogger status site and the Blogger Help Forum said that the service went off for nearly 90 minutes but as it happened during the early hours of BST, it did not affect many users. However, a message that was posted in Blogger status site after a while stated that the service was not available for many users. Though they restored the system, it certainly did affect many users. Some of them were not able to view other’s blog as well. The message posted read as follows, “Blogger was unavailable for most users for over an hour. Service has now been restored.”
It has been a very bad timing of the service outage that has happened now, as Google is these days seriously trying its best to convince users about the stability of the cloud based service delivery system. And, as this is a service that is widely used by users for both personal and business as a platform to publish and manage their own blogs, this outage is not something that would have not gone unnoticed. Rather, it had affected so many that it is almost known to everyone now, even those who did not really use Blogger service at the time of the outage. This outage has certainly raised a question in the minds of the users wondering on how reliable the service would be.
Though the cause for the outage was not specified, a Google’s spokesperson told the media that the service outage was addressed quickly and that it was working now. He said, “Users were unable to access their Blogger accounts…and some people had trouble viewing others’ blogs. We worked quickly to address and fix the issue, and we apologise for any inconvenience to our users,”
There were recent announcements from big companies and institutions about availing this service in the coming few months for thousands of their employees and students respectively. Therefore, such outages in the service, thought not frequent, would still affect the number of users who are using it and would also toggle the minds of those who are planning to sign up yet and such outages would certainly affect the growth of the service and the company too. This has been an outage that has followed the Gmail outage that happened in September and made thousands of users suffer.
