Google Answers Bounce Question – Or do They?

Friday, December 26th, 2008

Google Analytics spokesperson has reportedly stated that Google considers a ‘bounce’ a visit to your landing page with no other activity taken – in other words, they see your landing page, and leave.

If they click to another page in your site, then even of they leave immediately it is not a bounce. If they visit your landing page, click on an external link, and watch a video or leave the site through that new window, then it comes down to whether or not you have enabled tracking to sind a hit back to Google.

Even if your page is left open on the users browser for up to 29 minutes, if within that time the visitor returns and goes to another page, that isn’t a bounce.

Is this why so many sites now have a frou-frou page that says ‘please click here to enter site?
