With Apple iPods flying off shelves faster than stores can stock them (1.4 million in 3 months), the gPhone is more anticipated than ever.
As mobile networking grows by leaps and bounds, it is no surprise that Google is trying to come up with a plan of their own – surely with an eye on future advertising possibilities.
More and more mobile phones these days are expected to be mini-computers; more a tiny laptop than a real phone. Minutes for internet based cell phone usage have soared and will soon surpass actual voice call time by a wide margin.
In fact, we aren’t even supposed to be calling them phones anymore, as the description just doesn’t do the little handheld devices justice.
Consumers want phone capability, text messaging, e-mail, internet search, localized listings and more, and Google intends to match their needs and hints that hitherto unheard of features will be available for the upcoming release as well.
So when will the Android go on sale? Reports have surfaced that it will be available in September only from T-Mobile – at a cut rate price of $150 with a (of course) two year contract. Then it will undergo public release in October for $399 a pop!
So is the Android going to be as popular as it’s Apple counterpart? We had to dig a little to find the catch – and sure enough, there it was. You have to have a g-mail account to use the new gPhone.

A video surfaced on YouTube recently and is supposed to depict a model of the new gPhone, named the ‘Dream’ – this was followed by a video by Sergey Brin and Steve Horowitz of Google, with an official demo of the new Android phone.
The Android can mix 3D graphics, and the map capabilities are awesome with street view. The interface between the phone functions and internet capability is smooth and uninterrupted, and the 3G speed is very nice.
To sweeten the deal for developers, Google is offering ten million dollars in prize money to the developer(s) who come up with the greatest apps using Android technology!
They are looking for innovation and creativity that will utilize the cutting edge technology now available in the mobile application market.
