CBS Radio and Yahoo have announced on Wednesday (3-Dec-08) about their collaboration. They have planned and decided to combine both their radio stations together. Yahoo’s LAUNCHcast radio site had lost its listeners tremendously. It had lost more than 43% of its usual listeners but now there is a new ray of hope that there would be increased number of listeners visiting the site. In most appropriate figures, according to comScore, LAUNCHcast had nearly 5 million monthly users last year but in the same month this year the number of listeners has dramatically reduced to 2.8 million. At the same time a considerable amount (4%) of increase in listeners were noted in the case of CBS Radio. From early months of the coming year, these two companies would be working together. 150 channels from LAUNCHcast and more than 150 channels from CBS radio would all be integrated together and would start functioning as a single unit. These channels would be available in Yahoo’s music site and would be powered by CBS Radio’s player. The responsibility of sales, promotion and advertisement has been given to CBS Radio and it will be taking care of all related issues. This partnership is hoped at building a good base for those who love listening to audio channels and the sales of ads for Yahoo is also expected to increase because of the collaboration.
As a result of this partnership, Yahoo news and sports will also have popular CBS radio sports and news channels like WPHT-AM in Philadelphia, WFAN-AM in New York and KNX-AM in Los Angeles integrated so that sports lovers would easily be able to gain access to their favorite sports channel instantly. It has also been announced that LAUNCHcast, for the first time, would be available for Firefox, Safari and Mac users too. The partnership is expected to bring good results as this partnership between CBS Radio and Yahoo is similar to the deal that was made between CBS Radio and AOL Radio. The partnership was a great success as all the features were highly advanced and were for the first time made interactive.
This is a great opportunity for LAUNCHcast, as this partnership with CBS Radio would increase the ad sales that were running too good in the past few months. The sales are expected to be maximized with CBS’s new approach of promoting the sales and through TargetSpot. TargetSpot is a network that promotes sales through an online geo targeting system and through its recent acquisition Ronning Lipset Radio, which is the largest online audio ad network.
The president of digital media and integrated marketing for CBS Radio, Mr. David Goodman has mentioned in a speech that their collaboration with Yahoo has built hope that they would jointly receive more listeners to their channels and that TargetSpot would help them in getting good and compelling campaigns ready for their integration. Everyone is hoping that this partnership would work out to be good for both the parties and it is expected to bring in more listeners and revenue.
