Google is really doing well this time to increase the sense of anticipation of its fans on the Android phone release. Google is expected to release the Android phone which is powered by Google next week. While the whole world is expecting the final release of this Google powered mobile phone, one of the senior executives of Google happened to show off the Android phone in a demonstration in London. This seemed more of an inadvertent move which resulted in speculation among the audience whether that could be the much awaited Android phone. However, it looked that the silence from Google seemed to be intentional. Google did not comment anything on the speculations as either admitting or denying will let the cat out of the bag much in advance. For obvious reasons where competition is rife, Google would certainly not like to reveal its secret technology until it is actually launched its Android powered phone. However people strongly feel that they have got a foretaste of the much anticipated Android powered phone.
Taiwanese company HTC has got the lion’s share of the deal by getting signed up for manufacturing the new phone for Google. This phone is called Dream; this phone will be run entirely by Google Android. This new phone will be available in only via the T-Mobile network. It will be launched in New York on 23rd of September, 2008 and we can expect it to be made available for the public by November. The timing of the release and its availability in the market is very strategically decided. As this will make more people go for this phone as part of their Christmas shopping and this can trigger a heavy competition with Apple’s iPhone during the holiday season.
Yesterday Google celebrated Google Developer Day in the UK at Wembley Stadium and it is during this event the photos of a touch screen device which resembled photographs of the Dream phone which was already released to the market. Mike Jennings was the Google executive who got himself into hot waters by showing off the phone in the event.
There are lots of speculations about how this new device is going to be. The most common speculation is that the Dream handset is more likely to have a QWERTY keyboard that will slide out. Moreover, it is expected that this new handset will come with Global Positioning System as pre-packed software. This is for sure going to be a multipurpose device. Besides that the new phone is expected to have the capacity to handle easily, most of the Google applications including Gmail, Google Maps, Google Chrome and Google Docs.
Both Google and HTC are expecting the sales to touch magic figures; however we need to wait and see the response of the public. There have been a number of instances where much harped about products did even achieve any marginal sales and one such product that all of us will remember is Windows Vista from Microsoft. So we actually need to wait and see how well the Android phone Dream is going to be received.
