3G iPhone Steps up Mobile Search

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

With the advent of the new 3G iPhone, mobile search is more important than ever. And in July, when the upgrade at half the price and double the speed becomes available, advertisers had better be ready!

Local search targeting and sharing of files is expected to be the most used application of this phone, as users network both socially and in business settings.

The GPS capability is planned to give even more accurate targeting information for local search by triangulating position through cell tower and Wi-Fi capability.

Several major companies have gotten ahead of the curve in preparation; Yellowpages.com, Yelp (a local reviews network) and Loopt (a location based local network) have all implemented features for save and share access for users and their friends.

The next step of marketing is in sight; as social, mobile and local networks interconnect on the consumer side, advertisers will have to keep pace.
