YouTube Is King

Monday, September 22nd, 2008
According to the latest data from comScore for August 2008, it appears that YouTube has passed Yahoo at least in expanded search queries. Core search is simply one that occurs on one of the five major search engines – expanded search would include YouTube among others such as eBay, FaceBook, My Space, Craigslist, Amazon or MapQuest.

While core search still leaves user generated video sites trailing, searches under the expanded criteria show Google/YouTube leading by a .2 billion query margin – and when you consider that YouTube makes up 98% of all videos viewed at Google sites you can get a clear picture that YouTube is still quashing the competition.

What does this mean for SEO? It means for the time being that Google video isn’t going to cut it. You need to be optimizing and uploading to YouTube, along with all the other users uploading 13 hours every minute in three minute average segments.
