When you are submitting articles to directories, the optimum advantage must be taken of each opportunity. There are a few directories which are taken fairly seriously simply because of their popularity. Once you have several articles in one of these directories, you can start to appear as a sort of expert, so make sure that your articles are top notch and accurate.
There are many programs available that claim to be able to spin out numerous articles just a few. They usually require you to write six to twelve articles, each with eight to ten paragraphs, with three to four sentences per paragraph. They then require that each sentence be rewritten to mean exactly the same thing, just in different words.
The idea is that a software will then mix and match sentences, paragraphs and titles to come up with anywhere from 600 to 6000 articles which are supposed to be unique and different from one another.
This is a grey area, as far as I am concerned. Yes, you can theoretically end up with multiple decent articles, and yes the search engines may not catch on - for a while, anyway - but no way this is original content, and everyone knows that.
If you decide you are going to go this route just for the directory submissions and links from those submissions, then make sure you personally proof each one to make sure they are coherent. It won’t do your online presence any good to have a bunch of garbage floating around on the net.
Look at it from a sensible point of view. Sure, article spinning isn’t against any rules, YET. Neither was selling links, originally, or dozens of other practices which now are considered black or at least very dark grey hat. Article spinning isn’t there yet, but it will be. Any time a new way shows up to scam the search engines, it will be discovered and quickly rendered ineffectual.
So what should you do? Get real. Spend the time, or money, for excellent original content that you can submit to the best directories and enjoy the benefits of the extra links without worrying about eventual penalties.
The original content rule is important. It exists for a reason; to help sites that are on the forefront and have the most valuable, updated information rise to the top. Of course, there will always be people who try to find out precisely where the line is drawn - and how much they can stretch it before it breaks.
This can be annoying to webmasters who are trying to improve their website organically and fairly. Seems like there are always ways to work around the confines of the intent of the internet and the powers that be. You have to make a decision about how far you personally are willing to test that line, and plan ahead in case it gets moved, down the line.
If you decide to go with the article spin, make sure you know exactly what has been done and where so you have a chance of salvaging things if the worst happens and sites start being penalized for - what might they call it - article spam?
