We never cease to hear that blogs are a wonderful way of getting good visitor traffic and search ranking. What we are not told is that we do not get instant success with our blogs as soon as we launch our blog. We need to work hard for its success. We need to put in a lot of thinking to make our blog a success.
Of course, as always first things first, if you want to make your blog a success, you must make sure to have some unique and irresistible content. This will attract many visitors to subscribe to your blog. Now the question here again is, will good content automatically make your blog popular? Before you can get popular, you need to give your blog a head start so that people will know that you have a resourceful blog online. It will take a considerable amount of time before you blog gets indexed and gets listed for relevant keywords. This will certainly happen but in the beginning you need give that little extra push that is required to start the ball rolling.
If you are an existing business that already has a list, you can make use of your existing list and invite people who have already known you and your services to visit your blog. This will be one of the easiest ways of giving your blog a kick-start. You can get your existing customers know about your blog through an email. Keep your email short and concise so that it will not look as if you are trying to sell them something. People are already bombarded with enough marketing mails and they always look at corporate emails with suspicion. You need to win their trust by sending a succinct email announcing about your new blog.
It will not be a bad idea to give them an incentive for subscribing to your blog. If you do so, it will enhance your email marketing. It can be a discount on your products or a free eBook or it can be anything. People always fall for free things and you can use this for your advantage.
Good content, effective marketing that is supported by an incentive will certainly do your blog a great good. Once you have received enough subscribers to give your blog a good start, you need to make sure to keep the fire burning by posting regularly. Each post should be unique and should be resourceful. Today we have lot of information online but people know that all information is trustworthy or credible so there is always a great demand for good information. Therefore, by providing what people want, you can make your blog a great success. Do not keep posting marketing pitches in your blog and if you do so it will be easiest way of losing your subscribers. With little extra thinking and posting resourceful information, you can run a blog successfully.
Sometimes you manage to claw your way up to the top of the SERPs only to be bounced by an upstart with an apparently absent conscience. What do you do when some website owner decides to play dirty?
We all hate the black hatters; the ones who come in, stand on our back and our careful work and steal the spotlight. These are the content scraping, link buying, bottom dwelling scum that make our lives a living – well, you know what I mean.
How do we deal? We take comfort that black hat tactics hardly ever last for any amount of time. We actively watch for plagiarism – of our own work and others. We report link buying and other Webmaster Guideline violations. We play hardball.
What we don’t do is stoop to their level. I’m the sort of person who always glares at the cars parked in the fire lane at the front of the store, angry at the people driving them who will get in and out faster in the pouring rain; but I know if I even park there for a second to grab a paper out of the machine so I don’t have to get the baby out of the car, I will be immediately issued a ticket by a cop who will show up out of nowhere.
That’s OK. It keeps me honest. I park where I am supposed to, stay out of the way, and don’t end up like that guy at the diner a few months ago. He had parked his truck and trailer up alongside the building instead of back away from the restaurant where there was room, and when the man at table four had a heart attack the ambulance and fire rig had to park way out. Guess who got reamed out by the firemen, paramedics, police and diner owner, issued a citation and banned from the restaurant ever more – just escaping arrest? You guessed it – it wasn’t me.
Same goes for staying white hat. Don’t yield to temptation. Don’t be evil! It will all balance out in the end. Karma is the dickens!
While well thought out, holistic SEO process can surely get us good rankings, we need to admit that at times optimizing and getting good ranking for certain keywords can be highly challenging. Some of the niche markets have severe competition. We need to be realistic about working our way through the competition. Some of the websites will be having a long-standing history of ranking well in the search engine results. They will be old enough, well linked and authoritative in their own fields. Overpowering such websites can be indeed a difficult task for a brand new website.
Market research is highly crucial for any good SEO to take place. If our optimization efforts do not match the market competition then getting required ranking will be just an unrealized dream. How do we survive in such a high level of competition? Can we get enough traffic to our websites despite the high level of traffic? The answer is yes but for that, we need to understand the company or the website’s business model well and only then we will be able to derive the required traffic. We can tap the visitor traffic through many avenues.
It is no more a popular trend to work on short and generic keywords. At one time, people were fighting for generic keywords. But if you look at the issue little closely, you will understand that generic keywords will have lot of competition. It is not only a highly level of competition that will have to face, but at the same time, we will not be getting focused visitor traffic. By choosing too generic keywords, we will only increase the competition level. The conversion rates will be poor with generic keywords.
The best way to fight high level of competition is to go for a tight knit approach on long tailed keywords that are specific to your website. Get your website’s content written by seasoned SEO writer who has good business acumen. Because in today’s scenario, what we need is multi skilled SEO professionals. A web designer can be considered a skilled person when he or she is good at designing highly captivating designs and the same applies to a programmer too but for an SEO professional to be a skilled SEO professional, he or she should be good at writing, good at analysis of the market trend, should have a decent knowhow about website designing and above all should understand the business dynamics. If they are given a new field, they should be able make a quick research and come up with SEO solutions that are customized to that particular field. SEO is becoming more and more niche based these days. So if we are to fight a heavy competition, we need to take into consideration all possible aspects and the SEO professional and the SEO writers should be capable of undertaking such tasks.
Inbound links continue to have a very significant influence on website rankings. The higher quality the link, the more authority that link passes on – or the more it’s vote for your site counts. Outbound links have to be even higher quality to make a difference. So what are the top five link sources?
Government and educational sites carry a whopping load of link juice. If youc an link back to your site from a .gov or .edu site, DO IT. Also, if you can link out to these sites it won’t hurt a bit.
Local organizations carry relevance, so register with the Better Business Bureau and the Chamber of Commerce. Links from these sites can be very relevant for geographically specific terms and topics. Locate other local businesses in your field as well as organizations that maintain lists of businesses and request links back to your site – offer a free article if you have to.
Press releases can be distributed through press release distribution services to increase your brand visibility, and get you inbound links. Press releases that get picked up by other sources will usually mention and link back to you. These are short term value links, but if you keep an ongoing campaign you can keep the juice flowing.
Directory submissions are great and easy to get. A service can hook you up by providing manual submissions to the best ones out there. Again, if your business services a specific geographic area, find some good local directories to submit to. Optimizing your site and making sure it is included in local data sources and directories can help boost local search visibility, and you should also try to get indexed in each new search engine as they appear as each will end up with diehard fans.
Charity and Non-Profit Links are almost as valuable as .gov and .edu links. They can really give you some punch, particularly if your company’s business model includes philanthropy. When you make charitable contributions to organizations and non-profits, look for a “Donors” list on their website and ask for a link.
Blog. Blog, blog, blog. Guest blog, write articles and comment. You can be an authority, and you can end up with lots of link love! Remember to be respectful, and give as much as you take. Don’t spam, don’t make a nuisance of yourself, and don’t waste space. Be sure to network online with complimentary blogs by sharing industry news, original ideas and useful tips. Lots of people will then link to you for nothing! Link out to other blogs in your industry, and reference fellow industry bloggers – they’ll scratch your back too.
These link tips will help you build short and long term link juice, and if carried through with over time will keep increasing your link power. Happy Linking!
Step One: Do your homework! Educate yourself – there are plenty of posts right here in this blog to explain the ins and outs of pay per click. There are also plenty of excellent programs out there (Google AdSense being only one of them) that can help you mock up an ad, choose keywords, and get targeted traffic coming in with a minimum of hassle.
After a little traffic and conversion tracking, you can do a little tweaking and start seeing a difference in your visitor numbers, quality and conversion rate.
Step Two: Choose good keywords. The keywords you want to target are ones with enough search but not to much competition. You need keywords that fit your niche and that are specific enough to have decent volume without losing other possible traffic. This takes research and a willingness to maintain multiple campaigns and maintain SEO that will target the same keywords. This way consumers will find your advertisements by searching for certain keywords – if you find out what search terms they use to find products or services like yours, you can provide the most relevant ad. If you complete quality keyword research you can latch onto the ones that will be your best traffic drivers.
Step Three: Word your ad properly. Carefully phrase things in a way that will weed out those who are likely to ‘bounce away‘ after seeing your site, and concentrate on attracting the people more likely to make a purchase – in other words, the ones who go online looking for what you have to offer specifically. You can stand out by making sure to include your targeted keyword one or more times in the ad. Some SEMs recommend you ensure that the key word is in each line of the ad.
Step Four: Landing Pages. This is where the SEO comes back in. You must be sure your landing page is highly relevant and targeted. If a bad landing page shows up in response to a click, because you either didn’t actually have what they’re looking for or you buried yourself under a lot of glitz and high pressure sales tactics, you will lose potential customers or waste your time on ones who didn’t need your site in the first place. Focusing your landing page tightly to the relevant key word is essential! Don’t settle for creating something that is too general. Make it specific – if you have done steps one through three correctly the visitor will be going ‘YES! THIS is EXACTLY what I was looking for!”
That’s it, folks; the four cornerstones to pay per click internet advertising. Learn and grow!
