Another way of maximizing the potential of our website is to launch affiliate programs. Affiliate program is a win-win strategy. However, if it is not implemented correctly, we will not be able to get the desired results and the money we invest in maintaining our affiliate program will go wasted. If you are considering affiliate programs to promote your sales, it is better to signup with one of the affiliate program management companies such as Commission Junction it will save you time, money and energy that you have to spend on setting up, implementing and maintaining the affiliate program.
Even those companies that have successful affiliate programs spend a certain amount of their website promotion budget on SEO. Even for your affiliates to be successful, you need to work on branding your product or service. It is much easier for your affiliates to sell a popular product than selling some unknown brands. Therefore, a certain amount of branding efforts is required from your end to support your affiliate network.
Before setting up your affiliate program, you must make sure that your products or services will attract affiliate marketers. Not all products are equally successful with affiliate programs. You should therefore conduct a survey before you launch your affiliate program to find out the actual potential of your products or services. You must also know your market competition. Without having all the metrics in hand, you must not spend money on launching your affiliate network. Much before you launch your affiliate program, you should start your SEO efforts. Many webmasters think SEO and affiliate programs are mutually exclusive. Actually, these two complement each other and one can boost the other.
Once you learn to balance your budget between your SEO efforts and affiliate program, you will be able to get maximum benefit. You should not completely ignore your website’s SEO even when your affiliate program runs successfully. Regular attention should be given to your websites SEO. You will certainly not regret when the sales level increases through organic traffic to your website. So why should you miss the benefit that you can get.
Even the affiliate marketers to find you and your affiliate program you should have good search engine ranking unless you are prepared to pay heavily for PPC and other forms of marketing your website. You should not blow your website promotion budget too much to remain profitable. Once you achieve the required online visibility, you can start concentrating on reinforcing your affiliate program to improve your conversion rates. Your affiliate marketers should be incentivized properly to remain motivated.
You will be able benefit from your affiliate program only when it is well implemented. It is a misconception to think that our sales level will shoot up as soon as we launch our affiliate program and that we do not have to work on our SEO once we launch our affiliate program.
SEO is Like Child’s Play – Harder Than it Looks
Ever play hopscotch when you were a kid? It’s not as easy as the little kids make it out to be. Don’t believe me? Try it sometime. You have to hop in one foot, bend over, turn, skip, and avoid stepping on the cracks in the sidewalk to ensure your maternal parent’s spinal health.
Jacks are the same way. I tried to teach my daughter to play jacks last year, and I guess I was rusty. She was beating the pants off of me inside of ten minutes. You have to bounce the ball just right, scoop up the jacks in the correct order, and catch the ball – again, it’s not as easy as I remember!
Video games. Eye hand coordination at its peak, to my mind – I have dim memories of my brother on our original Atari, mouth half open, eyes wide and staring as he navigated the games ins and outs. I never could stand video games – I get wayyyy too tense and panicky. I can’t seem to avoid the snapping jaws of whatever is chasing, and I am usually sweating from nerves by the time my last man gets eaten alive.
SEO is like that. It’s not a simple process – A. Do this. B. Do that. It’s a fluid, ongoing process that requires you to be able to multi task and manage a bunch of different aspects of the game.
I did find one online game I play with my daughter. It features a penguin on ice skates who owns a diner. She has to seat customers, take their orders, serve food, bus tables and collect tips. Each level of the game features a more crowded dining room, and you have to keep a close eye on the clientele to keep faces from turning red and tempers exploding.
I actually got rather involved in the game, to my daughter’s dismay. Each day in the diner requires that a certain quota be met in tips, and the speed and alacrity with which you discharge your duties determines the size and quantity of these rewards. You can use excess profits to buy faster skates, more comfortable seats, and wide screen TVs to promote customer satisfaction.
I won the game. The first one I EVER won! I managed to keep my cool, multitask and get a ticket back home to the South Pole on a passing ice floe. I was pretty proud of myself, and even my daughter gave me a pat on the back. How does this tie in with SEO? Keep reading….
Extra profits can be folded back into your site for improvements. Buy a plasma TV (add some sweet graphics or a widget to your site); invest in comfortable seating (improve internal site architecture to make navigation easier) and consider streamlining your loading time by simplifying your home page ( you can skate faster with a better Quality Score!)
The trick is to juggle all of this so it happens simultaneously. You have to think ahead, anticipate and make sure you have given yourself enough leeway. Be prepared for the process of rising up the SERPs to take a while – Rome wasn’t built in a day, and the penguin didn’t earn her ticket back in one night’s work, either.
Once you have managed to balance all of the factors, however, you can kick back and enjoy the benefits, with just a hand on the wheel to make sure your ice floe is steering the right way. A little routine maintenance is all it takes to keep a truly optimized site running smoothly, if you play the game right from the very first screen!
Is getting paid links one of the effective link building strategies? Before answering the question whether paid links are effective, we need to ask another crucial question, which is, are paid links safe? It is best to avoid paid links and the simple answer to the above question is a resounding, “No!”
Search engines do not like webmasters trying to bolster their websites ranking by buying links from other websites. Even Google detests paid links and remember that it need not be necessarily links from link farms. Google and other search engines will be able to easily pick out the difference between a natural link and a paid link.
You must also remember that paid links are not permanent links. There some websites that try to sell webmasters permanent or lifetime links. However, we can never be sure of the lifetime of such links. Even if they are still alive they will be pushed, down the list or be in some obscure place with no relevant content around the link. Having such links are not going to get your website too far. There is no use having temporary links to your website because any improvement in search ranking brought about by the temporary links do not last long. Your position in search results will drop again.
Moreover, when you pay for your links, your website promotion budget will swell month after month because you cannot be content with a limited number of links and you need to keep increasing the number of links to make sure that your website retains its position in the search results. So you will end up spending a lot of money on your link building project.
However, these days when there are so many quality link building approaches available, it does not justified to buy our links. Even if you think that you do not have time to do the link building work yourself you can hire a professional SEO company and get them build your links using various techniques. Instead of paying for links, you can use that money to pay the SEO company and the links you will get will be one way links and they will be permanent links as well. Your website will also be safe from search engine penalties. When you get help from the right SEO / SEM company, they will be able to get the links from high PR pages.
If you have been already using paid links then it is time to change your strategy and if you are just contemplating to get your paid links then it is best not to take this road at all. When it comes to website promotion, it is always best to go with the safest approaches even though the results may come by slowly. You can at least be sure that you will get there rather than risk your website’s online reputation.
You might think ‘Affiliates? why would I want to sell other people’s stuff? – especially if you have your own product. You might want to think twice, however. Your product isn’t going to be exactly what every visitor to your site is looking for, so why not stock a few more items for hose picky customer? A commission on someone else’s sale is better than a big, fat zip.
The ay to find good affiliates for your site is to track some of your visitors. See where they come from, and where they end up. If you notice most of your conversions come from one source, while another source results in a bounce visitor, perhaps those customers aren’t quite finding what they want. Same goes for demographic breakdowns – Do you need some more age specific deals or what?
Once you have identified your dissatisfied market, try to find out what they are really looking for, since your product isn’t hitting the mark. Then you can find some affiliates in a related field, and try to hook those customers back to the checkout line.
Word of caustion; you definitely don’t want to cut yourself out of the loop, so make sure your affiliate isn’t cooler than you! Look for something different, that your specifically targeted demographic won’t choose it over your product.
Affiliates can help you with traffic, SEO and user friendliness – While we won’t tell everyone to go shop another venue a la Miracle on 34th Street, we do want them to remember us fondly. Using affiliates to make them happy does work.
If you are smart, you can even set up an affiliate site as a satellite site and work traffic specifically for your affiliates. if you link your affiliate sales to route through that site, even your conversions and profits tracking will be easier.
Affiliates can help you, if you use them wisely. Just make up your mind and find the ones that cmplement your site, not overwhelm it with competitiveness. There is room for other products as long as you don’t end up playing second fiddle!
