What is Title Tag?

Title Tags are one of the most critical aspect of search engine optization. Search engine rely heavily on title tag for relevancy of a web page against a search query. In Search Engine algorithms, Title tag is given very high relevancy for high ranking.

This is how your Title tag looks like on Web page:

To see the Title tag of any website you can see it by choosing “View,Source” from your browser or simply right click and choose “view source code”

How to write effective Title Tag?

Create a list of keyword and phrase that you would like to target for ranking in Search Engines. Remember use different Title tag for each of your page, you can get penalized by SEs (Search Engines) if you see the same title tag for all your pages.

Open a notepad and lets create a effective title for Submitedge.

So now first let me take the list of my keywords :

Now we’ll simply combine the keywords into a sentence. Remember each additional keyword will reduce the importance of other keyword.

First I’ll see which keyword is the most important keyword for my website. In our example the most important keyword is Directory Submission. Also I’ll make sure that I don’t repeat any of the keyword, repeating keywords will have no importance in Title tag. If I use Manual Directory Submission Service - All my keywords Directory submission, Directory Submission service, Manual Directory Submission will be taken care. Now I want to include Manual Article submission service in my title tag.

There is my option

The only problem with this Title tag is I’m using comma, so when a Search Engine reads they’ll read them as 2 different keywords and will surely impact the several combinations I can create from the Title. Lets retry it..

Hyphen will be ignored by Search engine and if you see I’ve also used last keyword of mine SEO Firm. Using hyphen will not much of he difference when search engine read my Title Tag and still produce good results for me. If possible try to create one single sentence, that can be read by Human as well as Search Engines.

You can also include your Brand name (if its a small one name, else you’ll end up wasting most of your important space of Title) in Title for Brand Establishment. You are creating a site that is Region Specific, It makes sense including your Region or Area in Title. Stop words are ignored by Search Engines and have no significance in Title. So if you use them there is no harm. But using them again will be a waste of Space. Remember its advisable to use 60 Characters in your Title.

Points to Remember :
1) Use all your keywords in title

3) You can use Stop words
4) Try avoiding commas, instead use hyphen
5) In your site is Region Specific, mention your region
6) Most Importantly make it REAL visitor friendly and not just Search Engine Spider Friendly

Lot of new webmasters keeps asking me what is C class IP, so its simple if you see any ip address its divided in to 4 parts - AAA.BBB.CCC.DDD. Third section is called Class IP.

Whats the importance of C class IP in SEO?

In the era of spam, many webmasters started creating multiple website on same server and linked each other to increase the sites backlink and ranking. Search Engines identified this issue and started avoiding links coming from similar IPs - given its easy to get different D class ips on same server, Search Engines also started avoiding Links from same C Class IP. So when Search Engine see that you’ve a link coming from same C Class IP on which your website is located, the backlink will not have any importance. Please note you’ll not get penalized if you’ve link coming from same C class IP, but you’ll not get any advantage either. So if you are doing the link exchange specially if you don’t have your own server, do check if the person you are linking to has a different C class ip than yours.

The Google 950 penalty is a scenario when a website suddenly slips down the Google rankings to bottom ranking, a shift of around 950 places. For example if a site was previously ranking number 1 for a particular keyword but is now the last result on page 10 off Google search results, this would mean that the site has now shown a drop of 950 places hence the term 950 penalty.

Many people believe that the Google 950 penalty does not exist, this is may or may not be true, recently a webmaster approached us saying that his site had been hit by the Google 950 penalty, the webmaster said he had been ranking well for a few keywords however now he was on page 10 of the search results. Instantly we understood that the webmaster had been hit by the Google 950 penalty. In fact until then we were not really sure if the Google 950 penalty existed, but now that we have helped a webmaster who has been penalized by Google, we know think there might be some weight in the Google 950 penalty theory.

The first step that we carried out was to look through the site, and we figured out that the site had serious coding problems; it was not even HTML compliant let alone XHTML compliant. One of the first things we did was clean up the code of the site, and then made it XHTML 1.0 compliant. Many search engine optimization firms have ignored the importance of the XHTML validation but we felt that making the site XHMTL compliant helped. Since we carried out a lot of steps we are not sure which one exactly worked, but by listing all the major steps we carried out we hope to help other sites get out of the Google 950 penalty.

The next step that we carried out was removing any duplicated content and pages from the site, in earlier blog entries too we have stressed on how Google is cracking down on improper SEO practices, and even if by accident a site has duplicate content then it should definitely make sure it cleans it up ASAP. In this case also we removed all duplicity from the site.

Once we had removed any duplicate content from the site, we also made sure that the site’s structure as well as the structure of all the pages on the site was SEO friendly, in addition to correcting pages that were ill structured; we also carried out optimization of the supplemental pages. By optimizing all the pages on the site we ensured that there were no search engine optimization related discrepancies on the website.

The final step in helping the site with better rankings was getting back links from established sites, instead of paying for high PR links we actually got the customer genuine links from niche sites and directories related to the site. This way we ensured that the site was not picked up by the Google paid links algorithm. Once all the steps were complete within a month or so the site is now back in the top 20 rankings in Google.

What causes the Google 950 penalty? We really cannot say, in fact we are still not a 100% sure that the Google 950 penalty exists, but what he have done is mention the steps we took to help a webmaster get his site back from the Google 950 penalty.
